Setup & onboarding

The first onboarding step takes a long time

HumanStamp's backend scales to zero when idle, so the very first registration call can take a few seconds while our servers wake up. The app shows "Waking server…" after two seconds — that's expected. Subsequent calls return in under a hundred milliseconds.

Face ID isn't prompting

Confirm Face ID is enrolled in Settings → Face ID & Passcode. HumanStamp uses Apple's system Face ID prompt — your biometric data never reaches us. If Face ID is enrolled but the prompt still doesn't appear, force-quit HumanStamp and reopen it.

I'm on iOS 15 or earlier

HumanStamp requires iOS 16 or later. The Secure Enclave APIs we depend on for hardware-backed signing are not available on earlier versions.

The iMessage extension

The HumanStamp icon doesn't appear in Messages

Open the Messages app, tap the app drawer icon next to the input field, scroll to the end of the apps row, and tap Edit. Find HumanStamp in the list and toggle it on. Some iOS versions list disabled apps under "More Apps".

Stamping fails after I tap Send

This usually means the iMessage extension can't reach api.humanstamp.io. Confirm you're online and the main HumanStamp app finished onboarding (the extension reads device state set up by the main app). If onboarding wasn't completed, the extension will not have a device key to sign with.

The recipient sees the stamp link but it doesn't open

HumanStamp messages are sent as iMessage app payloads with a tap target that opens verify.humanstamp.io/<token> in Safari. If the recipient's device has iMessage app support disabled, they may see a plain link instead — tapping it still opens the verification page.

Account & privacy

How do I remove my device?

Open HumanStamp → Profile tab → Remove Device. The app deletes your device key locally and asks our server to revoke the registration. Deletion is permanent and immediate.

Will my data follow me to a new phone?

No. The device key lives in your iPhone's Secure Enclave and cannot be exported. When you set up HumanStamp on a new phone, you'll register a fresh device.

I deleted the app — is my data gone?

Deleting the app removes the local key, but your device's public key registration remains on our servers until you use the in-app Remove Device flow. If you no longer have access to the device, email [email protected] and we'll deregister you.

Verification page (verify.humanstamp.io)

I got a HumanStamp link from someone

Tap the link or paste it into Safari. The verification page checks the token's cryptographic signature against the device that signed it and renders one of: green shield (valid), yellow (expired or fallback authentication), red (tampered or revoked), or none (unknown device). You don't need to install HumanStamp to view a verification page.

The verification page shows red

Either the message was modified after stamping, or the sender's device has been revoked. The page explains which case applies; treat the message with the same skepticism you would an unsigned one.

Still stuck?

Email [email protected] with a short description of what you tried and what happened. Screenshots help, but please don't share anything sensitive — we don't need your messages to debug HumanStamp.
